I started Handmade Moments a few years ago as a natural progression from making cards and gifts for family and friends. I started doing craft and vintage fairs not long after this and I loved doing them as I get to see customers appreciating the lovely things that started off in my head! The craft community is such a lovely place to be and I have made so many friends that it became a social event as well!
I always carry a notebook with me as ideas come to me at the most inopportune moments, once I have one idea then another couple usually stem from that one and I have been known to run back and forward to my craft space while making dinner!
I love sitting down to develop the ideas, they don't always work out but when something does, it's an amazing feeling, especially when someone either comments on it or buys it.
I believe in the handmade and all the love and quality that goes into making a piece from scratch. I believe in having beautiful things that are unique and a little different.
I design and make all of our products using resources around me. I use vintage threads, some of which are older than me, passed down from various grandparents and aunts! I upcycle books from local charity shops for my jewellery pieces. I also use vintage buttons and fabric I have accumulated over the years including Liberty fabric and I buy Harris Tweed directly from the weaver. Other materials are sourced from mainly Scottish independent companies.
In 2018 I was lucky to be accepted as part of Renfrewshire Council's creative business incubator InCube. I gained so much knowledge on how to grow my creative business and learn all the boring bits I need to keep my business going. I met so many lovely people during this time and I'm very thankful for the help InCube gave me.
2019 will hopefully see the growth of Handmade Moments with more stockists around Scotland. Keep your eyes on my Instagram, Facebook and Twitter pages for stockist updates. Details of current and new stockists can be found on the Stockists tab at the top of the page.
